I have recently added the ARC Studio unit to my fairly simple home audio setup and the clipping indicator is on anytime the output volume is above a whisper. I'll say that I can't hear clipping, but the indicator is on which concerns me. Can anyone shed some light on what I might be doing incorrectly? My setup is as follows:
AppleTV 4k feeds LG Oled C2 77" tv.
The LG's optical out (fixed) feeds Oppo UDP205 Bluray player (using this as a preamp).
iFi Zen Stream coaxial out also feeds UDP205 Bluray player.
Oppo UDP205 via balanced outputs feeds ARC Studio.
ARC Studio via balanced outputs feeds McIntosh MC352 power amp which then feeds speakers.
For the ARC4 Analysis step, I used the ARC4 MEMS mic that came with the ARC Studio (I added the required 48v phantom power supply) feeding my MacBook Pro which fed my Oppo UDP205's usb-b input. During the ARC4 Analysis' Audio Setup step, I ensured the Output Device field was set to Oppo and the Input Device field was set to USB Audio. I did receive a warning message stating:
"Input device/output device mismatch detected. We suggest using the same audio interface for input and output for optimal results"
However, since I'm not using pro equipment like in an actual studio, I believe this is unavoidable. Maybe this is my problem?
On the MacBook Pro's "Settings>Sound" tab, I made sure the Sound Input was set to USB audio and the Sound Output was set to the Oppo. I also made sure the input volume was all the way down prior to going through the ARC4 Analysis' Playback Level. I hit 'Play Test' and I raise the volume to a comfortable listening level. I'll add that I didn't have to raise it very much to get to that comfortable level. I then completed the MIC Preamp level processes. After completing the Room Analysis and Save steps, etc. I could easily tell the difference between not using the ARC Studio and using it. It all sounds really great. But that pesky clipping light is driving me nuts. Can anyone shed any light on this?
