save and re-use installed content...?

Postby adimatis » Tue Apr 08, 2025 12:41 pm

Hi all,

Just recently bought the Total Studio 4 MAX, I like it and I think was a great buy! Love the sounds.

Now, I am sure this was discussed before, so I am sorry for wasting your time maybe, but please help me understand this. The only thing I don't like is how tedious the installation process was. Downloading was alright, but then every little instrument/extension must be installed, that makes for a huge time-investment and character building...

My question is: once I have downloaded and installed the content, on a separate drive, couldn't I save the whole thing (the "IK content" folder that contains the many subfolders with the samples, instruments, etc) and then next time when I need, like after a new OS install or something, I skip all the proper installation of each library, instead I just re-direct Sampletank to that saved folder and that's it?

You know what I mean? I'd like to NOT go through the whole installation process again, it literally took me days (not linear, but you know what I'm saying) to finish it... And actually I am not quite done yet.

Thank you for your input!

Yes, you can back up the complete library once successfully installed and use that if you ever need to, instead of going through the library download / install process again. I do not know what status would appear in the IK Product Maanager.

Remember though that if there any library updates you would need to, one way of another, apply them to you back-up archive too.

And you would need to reinstall the software.

You can store your sound libraries on an external hard drive or alternative location and then you can just move that instead of reinstalling each time. Please check this FAQ for more info: https://www.ikmultimedia.com/faq/index.php?id=1407

You're welcome. I should look at the dates on some of the old libraries on my external hard drive, they've seen quite a bit of action. Probably been moved around more than a military family.
