Can't make Sampletank 4 find Miroslav Philharmonic.

Postby Chrisulrich » Tue Jan 07, 2025 1:51 am

Dear All.

I've got 55 gigs of installed (and that was a nightmare, constant corruptions in WinRar!) Miroslav Philharmonic, sitting in a folder on an external hard drive. I've started up Sampletank 4, used the Libraries thing (top left corner) to add the path to where Miroslav Philharmonic is. But it's not coming up anywhere in Sampletank, so I can't use the instruments!

Where have I f'd up?

Yours puzzledly,

Chris.

Dear All.

So tell me if I'm wrong - PLEASE! - the .STI files are the instruments. They tell Sampletank where to find the related .PAK files which are the actual sounds. So every .PAK file must have an associated .STI file, am I right in this?

I've carefully done every .RAR Miroslav Orchestra file one by one. They've all come up - eventually! - saying 'Installation Successful' (or similar words!) I've got 102GIG of .PAK files. And not an .STI file in sight. Nowhere. None that I can find.

Now I've put everything on an external hard drive, Drive F. I've checked Drive C incase they got put there by default - not that that could have happened, Drive C's too full which is why I used Drive F.

Assuming I'm right in what I said in the first paragraph - how do I make it create its .STI instrument files (Sample Tank Instruments, right?) so it knows where its .PAK sounds are?

There's GOTTA be a simpler way, more idiot-proof, of doing a download and install system. I mean it's not just Miroslav, I've got folders full of all kinds of .PAK files and not an instrument anywhere in sight. How am I supposed to make Sampletank PLAY all these sounds!?!

Yours baffledly - I've put the last 50 hours of my life into this, thus far! -

Chris.

For background info:
-- there should be no need to use WinRAR at all,
-- the IK Product Manager ("IKPM") is the recommended tool for downloading, installing, registering and authorizing all current IK Multimedia products; it should make these activities much easier.

Anyway ...

Yes, SampleTank 4 instrument files have the extension .st4i. And their sounds (samples) are in the corresponding .pak files. Similarly, SampleTank 3 instrument files have the extension .st3i (as do Miroslav Philharmonik 2 instruments and others).

I cannot remember which download files contain the instrument files.

Please note that the instrument files contain relative paths to their .pak files so the two sets of files must be in the correct relative folders. This FAQ should help you with the correct folder hierarchy: https://www.ikmultimedia.com/faq/index.php?id=1239
