Future of Amp Profiling concerning the EQ Section

Postby rcguitarguy » Fri Aug 02, 2024 7:04 pm

I often read threads about profiling amps and a common issues between the actual amp and the tone model that keeps coming up is that the EQ section of the profiler does not represent the EQ section of the actual amp. This is why, I think, there are usually multiple captures of a single amp. Through the profiling process would it be possible, by taking multiple instances of the amps EQ section, create an accurate profile of the of the amps EQ that has all the same characteristics of the real amps EQ? I suppose this would take hundreds of captures, but with the advancement of AI would we be at a point where we could attempt something like this? I suppose there would also have to be many different instances of the amp set with different gain and volume settings to boot. But, since the ToneX can capture the amp without the cabinet this may be something that could be tested. Having one profile to work with that really captures all the characteristics of the amp seems to be more practical than having hundreds of captures of the same amp. I think this is why some of the vintage guys stick with their tube amps. Just plug in and play, no scrolling required.

Another issue of the modelling/profiling world would be to address stage volume. I think this is the next frontier for modelers is getting them to sound authentic at stage volumes without a PA system. But, this is for another thread.
