Amplitube plug in version always clipping with distortion

Every time I turn the distortion up it clips, I've tried turning the signal down at every possible stage, Amplitube shows the signal in the green, and yet there is very obvious clipping whenever I play a guitar with distortion on it. I'm using the plug in version, but on standalone there's no clipping whatsoever and I can turn the distortion to what I want. The plug-in version sounds rubbish in comparison

Just for starters, adjust the daw (plug-in host) latency and/or turn off some of the other plug-in ion other tracks.

I've tried that, it made no difference
