I had the same issue, but I resolved it by observing two things:
1. I only use Lurssen for mastering, as it was intended. I don't put it on single tracks, I put it at the end of the chain if I use it in Studio One, and only on the Project page. It is the final step for me.
2. When using Lurssen, I set Studio One for maximum dropout protection. Any other level has the CPU performance meter pegged at 100%. Once I use maximum dropout protection, the CPU usage behaves normally. No pops, no crackles, very usable.
If you want to use it in standalone mode, open your setup (click on the gear) and change your buffer to the maximum value.
I won't be using this in standalone, as I also want to use ARC3. I use Lurssen and ARC3 on the Project page in Studio One.
Now, I just have to learn how to use it to make my recordings sound good! (Questions on another thread...)
