SampleTank 4 ("ST4") has 1600 plug-in parameters. Initially there are not assigned to any instrument controls. You can assign a control knob to a plug-in parameter by right-clicking the control. Oddly, I cannot find this described in the User Manual

I'm unclear: do you want to assign MIDI Continuous Control ("CC") or plug-in parameters to automate the controls?

The method I described above was for automation of the plug-in parameters.

To assign MIDI CC messages to a control:
-- make sure that your MIDI controller is sending MIDI CC to the DAW and that the DAW is passing them to t ST4
-- move the control on the GUI
-- right-click it, select "MIDI Learn"
-- move the knob/slider on your MIDI controller
That should do it.

OK,

I cannot see a way to add a MIDI assignment to the list of MIDI Assignments (click the 5-pin DIN MIDI icon in the bottom-right corner the the ST4 GUI to see them), so you will need to use ST4's MIDI Learn.

To assign MIDI CC messages to a control:
-- create a MIDI clip in the DAW with CC#11 messages only in it
-- move the control on the GUI
-- right-click it, select "MIDI Learn"
-- start play in the DAW.
The CC#11 messages should be sent to ST4 and there assigned to the target control.
Repeat for any other CC#. When finished, put your MIDI file on the track.
