in Syntronik:
what exactly are the stages (1 2 4 8) under filter/phaser knob do/mean?

A phaser filter (or phaser in general) will work using increases (peaks) and reduction (notches) - basically mixing a delayed and original signal creating these peaks and notches. The Stages indicate how many of these peaks and notches are present. More/higher number = more complex phased sound.
