DAC/Amp for MTMs

Postby amx443 » Fri Mar 10, 2023 9:39 am

What devices are you using to get audio into the MTMs? DACs, amps, headphone amps, etc.

I use the MTMs primarily to listen to mixes from pro studios (not for recording), so an interface isn't really what I'm after.

What's going to get these guys sounding their best?

Or would it be wiser to consider a passive preamp/volume control instead of an amp?

To get the best sound out of your MTMs, you may want to consider using a high-quality DAC (digital-to-analog converter) and amplifier combination. This will ensure that the audio signal is converted from digital to analog as accurately as possible, and then amplified to drive the MTMs properly.

There are many different options available on the market, ranging from budget-friendly to high-end audiophile gear. Some popular choices for DACs and amplifiers include the Schiit Modi/Magni stack, the JDS Labs Atom/OL DAC combo, and the Topping DX3 Pro.

Additionally, you may want to consider using a headphone amplifier if you plan on using headphones with your MTMs. This can help to drive high-impedance headphones more effectively and improve overall sound quality.

Ultimately, the best choice will depend on your budget, personal preferences, and the specific needs of your setup. It may be worth doing some research and possibly even auditioning different components before making a purchase.

Thanks for this! You'd want to find an amp/preamp with balanced outputs to match the MTM's balanced inputs, no?
