IK Product Management Tool?

Postby lowthert » Wed Mar 28, 2018 10:47 am

Hello all - are there plans for an IK tool to manage our products / authorisations / updates - like Izotope, NI, Toontrack, Avid etc... all have. I know we have the authorisation manager - but it is very cumbersome and manual compared to other apps that keep all our stuff in one place - updated and relevant to our account.

Thanks,

Tony

Any updates will be in your IK User Area at this time. You can use Custom Shop to restore your gear any time, though, if you have gear that is not showing up.

There has been discussion about a different type of product management tool, but I don't have any news on that at this time. If there is such a tool released, keep an eye here and on our web site and social media as we'd definitely announce it as soon as we had it available.

...any update on this? I think now only IK are left in not having something that efficiently manages software and account - for me anyway.

Are you guys at least working on something - it makes life so much easier.

Thanks. Tony.

Deja Vu. Any update on this - it has been nearly 8 months since the last reply? IK are now seriously behind the curve in this aspect of software management - in fact I can't think of another major supplier of this kind of product that doesn't have tool like it. [mod redacted please review the forum rules] IK have Custom Shop - but that is actually not the same thing - it is really just an incredibly slow, complicated shop that reminds you what you don't have...you still have to use the Authorisation Manager - which is also cumbersome and outdated.

It is now affecting whether or not I invest in IK products.

When are you planning to fix this?

Thanks,

Tony

There is a download/installation manager coming. There will be news on the IK site and via newsletter when available. We do not announce specific dates or chase them, the best possible product will be released when it is ready and it should be soon.

That's good to hear. Downloading SampleTank 4 MAX files is a nightmare and produces many corruption and file missing error that I've not been able to resolve as who knows in what zip file the original belongs.

I've never had these issues Logic that allows you to download specific sample sets which is considerably more elegant.

Looking forward to this
Thanks

I noticed this today as I am still working through SampleTank 4 downloads.

Looking forward to using it later. I notice it did not have legacy products but these can be downloaded the using existing "My Products" page.

Well done!

Agreed - I noticed this also - no legacy product support. That’s ok if there are no To be no revisions. It is a huge step forward though... although it is still largely punting products I don’t have. Does this make CS redundant now - can I delete all CS apps?

No. This is not a replacement for the CS versions of the software. This is purely a product manager for download, installation and authorisation of apps and sound content.

The CS versions of the apps are essentially content-restricted versions of the full apps. and you still need them installed to use the free versions of the IK software.

Not sure I understand - if you don't have any of the free software then how have you got CS apps that you want to delete?

Custom Shop is also installed with other versions of the software, of course, and to answer the question succinctly: No, Custom Shop is not obsolete.

Note that one key indicator of this is that you need Custom Shop open in the background while demoing AmpliTube or T-RackS gear.

Also, the Custom Shop software takes up next to no space by itself, and you don't need to run it if you don't want to (unless you want to try gear, or buy it with Gear Credits - the latter being the other reason it is not obsolete).
