Stomp IO, DI, mono output

Hello there,
I want to use my new Stomp I/O in this way: Instrument -> Stomp I/O -> Mxr DI -> Mixer.
I don't understand if the output is always in stereo mode or the right (or left channel) works in mono if only one is plugged. If stompI/O works in this way, the mono channel is balanced?
Mxr DI works with mono input only.

And yes, I want to use my DI because I like it's color mode...

The outputs are floating so they can use either TRS out or TS out (balanced or unbalanced) so you should be able to take a mono 1/4" cable out to the DI and have a mono mix. The only thing you'll be missing is the left right movement in modulation and echo that is stereo. Not a deal breaker.
