Record Acoustic Guitar with AXE I/O

Postby idflyfish » Sun Nov 15, 2020 3:27 am

Hey Everyone,

I have my a SM57 (the only mic I own) plugged into my AXE I/O for my first attempt at recording an acoustic guitar. My acoustic guitar is an electric/acoustic so I figured I'd record using the mic and the pickup. Anyway, does anyone have an guidance on how I should set the gain for the SM57? It is quite a bit quieter than the pickup (no surprise I guess) and I want to make sure I have enough gain for a viable recording. Any thoughts for a newbie?

I have an AXE I/O and I use my Shure SM57 for recording both my Orange Crush 35RT and my Seagull Entourage Rustic. Below is from a previous post I replied to regarding using the AXE I/O and mic'ing:

That's what I do to get an acceptable input signal into my DAW via USB. The AXE I/O doesn't have a "microphone preamp" onboard, the same as it doesn't have any guitar amp/cab/effects onboard. If you use just the "analog" microphone gain on the AXE I/O, then it's like plugging in your guitar and not using Amplitube 4 with your AXE I/O.

For my microphone pre-amp, I use the T-RackS 5 British Channel for vocals, mic'ing my amp and acoustic guitar. The pre-amp itself is super clean and transparent, the only noise is room noise. The pre-amp also includes a compressor/limiter and a really good noise gate.

I added a link to it along with some effects that I use with it as well. Definitely worth the price.
