Hammer To Fall Crakling and Popping [Resolved]

Postby 650thunderbird » Wed Jun 23, 2021 12:07 pm

I just bought the Brian May collection, today. I haven't been through all presets but Hammer to Fall, and other presets using 3 amps, are crackling and popping to the point of being unusable.
Has anyone else here experienced this issue and been able to rectify the problem?

Help appreciated :)

Hi 650thunderbird

If you increase the buffer setting what happens? Does it behave as expected?

Hi @garfy.

I increased buffer to 2048, still the same but with added lag.

Are you using the manufacturer's driver for the interface? What platform are you on - Mac or Win?

Hmm, the only other thing I can think of then is if something else is trying to access the same resources. Probably time to open a ticket with Official Support.

As this is a user-to-user forum and not direct to IKM support, in case no one else chimes in here with advice or a solution the best thing to do is check the FAQs, via https://www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-su ... ck=QUICKSW

If these do not resolve the issue, there is a link to the Technical Support form at the top of the Search FAQs page, for direct help from Official IK Support. They endeavour to reply within 2 working days, but obviously considering the current situation things may take longer than usual.

And, to help others who run into a similar problem, please let us know what you did to resolve the issues, but without directly quoting any correspondence from official support.

@garfy @Peter_IK

I decreased buffer size to 8 samples and it seems to be OK now :?

Random problems are always the worst. This does suggest that it was something else in the background hogging resources (defragging, system virus scan etc.)

I guess you'll just have to keep an eye on it.

@garfy

Will do.

It still crackles and pops when I increase the buffer size. Shouldn't it be worse when I make the buffer smaller?

Yeah, that's quite weird. It should be worse the lower the buffer size as you are putting more stress on the processor. Does it make a difference if you're using AT5 inside a DAW compared to standalone?

It's the same in Reaper, increase buffer size = bad, decrease to 8 = great.

I guess it's fine then :)

Thanks for your help @garfy @Peter_IK

If anything changes, I'll be back.

Well, this sort of indicates that it's not specifically an AT5 thing as Reaper is now in charge of the interface drivers. Still quite strange - maybe Behringer have found a way to manipulate the space/time continuum. :D
