Amplitube not getting signal from iRig Stomp

Postby safespace53078 » Wed Mar 10, 2021 7:03 pm

I've had this issue a few times recently, and googling for troubleshooting info seems to come up empty. I'm running Amplitube 4 on Mac OS 10.15 with my iRig Stomp IO. When I go to use it, I plug in my bass into my iRig Stomp, plug the iRig Stomp into my MacBook Pro, and the Stomp is clearly getting power as well as signal from the bass, as the gain indicator lights up on the Stomp when I play. But nothing happens in Amplitube - no sound, no gain indicators, no movement on the tuner, nothing.

I have iRig Stomp IO set as the input device in Audio/MIDI setup and my MBP Speakers set as the output. All other settings in Amplitube itself are the defaults (except I'm trying to use one of the bass presets, since it's a bass, after all).

What could be preventing the signal from making it to Amplitube?

Hello safespace53078 and welcome to the forum.

Could this be a Security and Privacy issue?

Go to System Preferences>Security and Privacy>Privacy>Microphone (left hand column) and make sure that AmpliTube has been granted access to it.

Let us know if that works.

I checked that - yes, Amplitube had already been granted access to the microphone.

dang, was hoping it was going to be something easy.

What happens if you change the output to the iRig Stomp, just in case the system is getting confused with a different output to input.

Howabout if you try to use the iRig Stomp in a DAW?

Well, once I changed the output to the iRig Stomp, the gain lights started lighting up in Amplitube, meaning the app is getting signal. But of course, now I can't hear anything.

Ok, well at least it's progress :) It shows that you don't have a faulty Stomp and the software is installed correctly, it's just not working as you want it too.

I guess firstly, trying to get a decent bass tone through MacBook speakers is going to be a bit of a stretch, so I would at least advise using headphones out of the iRig Stomp.

If you really want to use the MBP speakers, you will probably need to create an Aggregate Device so that Mac's Core Audio can address different I/O.

It might also be worth having a look at the IKM FAQs for any answers there. If that doesn't do the trick there is a link to Official IK Support at the top of the Search FAQs page for some one-to-one help.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feedback. Then when I switched audio back to the MBP speakers, it was still working. So why it wasn't working before and I had to jump through those hoops, I'm not sure. :?:

Ok, even better. Some people have reported that setting the output first resolves issues such as this, but mostly on Windows machines.

So, is everything working as you want to now?

Mostly. I tried loading up one of my presets and playing on that, and the little asterisk kept appearing randomly even though I wasn't touching the app to modify anything. Sometimes the signal would cut out then. But when the settings don't go randomly changing on me, everything appears to be fine.

Hmm, that's a little bit past my knowledge then I'm afraid. I don't have an iRig Stomp so have no practical experience of it.

Definitely worth following the above link and open a ticket with Official IK Support for that one I think.
