Amp5 w Axe I/O doesn't change guitar sound

Postby dansandel » Sat Feb 20, 2021 2:02 pm

Using Macbook Air with Big Sur 11.0.1. Installed no problem. Connected through the LoopFX on my Marshall amp.
Selected Axe for input and output in preferences.
Getting good monitor readings on Amp5 and Axe and a clean sound while playing the guitar.
But turning on the gear doesn't change the clean guitar sound.
Can't figure out why. What am I missing?
Thanks!

Hello dansandel and welcome to the forums.

How have you got it connected, as in which ins and outs have you connected on the AXE I/O?

It would help if you set out your complete signal chain.

Thank you!
The guitar is plugged into the front input on the amp as usual.
The FX loop on the amp send goes to the input 1 on the Axe. The amp out on the axe then goes to the return on the FX Loop.

Everything plays normally with good levels all around... just the AmpliTube 5 program isn't changing the guitar sound. Like there's some "on" switch that isn't on.

Thanks for your help!

Hi dansandel

Thanks for that. I don't use the AXE I/O myself, but looking at the user manual the Amp Out is a parallel version of the Input - so in your case just a clean guitar signal, meant for re-amping an already recorded dry signal.

To get the effected version out of the AXE I/O you need to use one of the main outputs on the back of the unit (maybe 3/4 as they are unbalanced), but as it's a line out you may need to look at a method to impedance and level match with what the amp return loop is expecting.

Hope that helps.
