AmpliTube 5 Crackling Unusable Profiles [Resolved]

Postby rockbandguy » Mon Jan 18, 2021 3:30 pm

I have a problem with AmpliTube 5. A lot of profiles are crackling and are really unusable. See examples from Brian May Collection attached.
Some profiles are OK but the most (f.e. Hammer To Fall) are not usable.

Find a video sample of the problem here:
https://youtu.be/Tsezdr8JLa8

Does it have to do with CPU load? The profiles too complex to be handled?

Please help.

Best, Adrian

Hi rockbandguy

That sounds like your processor and sound card/AI can't keep up. What buffer size do you have it set to in the Audio MIDI settings and what AI are you using?

If you have the buffer size set low at the moment (16 or 32) try to increase this. This will (hopefully) get rid of the breakup but it may increase noticeable latency.

Let us know how you get on.

I found a buffersize of 512 (!!!!) in the configuration dialog (where I select between ASIO, Windows, etc.).
But it seems that I cannot change the value.

What audio interface are you using?

At 512 you shouldn't be hearing that kind of breakup, especially if you are using an ASIO driven AI.

But I do hear the crackling.

When using AmpliTube 4 I recognized the crackling when the CPU meter (right top corner) got into the red.

Any advice how to optimize Windows for AmpliTube (what to disable etc.)?

I don't disbelieve you, your video shows it. I'm just saying that, with any decent modern-ish computer, at 512 samples (which latency-wise would be unplayable by most) you shouldn't be getting that problem.

There isn't a CPU meter in AT4 or 5. Are you running it in a DAW?

Again, what interface are you using? Are you using the manufacturer's recommended drivers? Are you using the ASIO driver?

Sorry, I don't use Windows so wouldn't be able to advise that. I'm sure a Windows user will chime in with some tips, but knowing your audio interface would help.

Another problem I have is the preset browser.
When I start the browser ist says something like "Refreshing" but while I waited minute after minute nothing happens.

How long should that take?

It should be instantaneous as far as I know. I've never seen it refreshing on my setups.

It sounds like you've got more than one issue going on here, so it could be down to the installation. As this is a user-to-user forum and not direct to IKM support, in case no one else chimes in here with advice or a solution the best thing to do is check the FAQs, via https://www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-su ... ck=QUICKSW

If these do not resolve the issue, there is a link to the Technical Support form at the top of the Search FAQs page, for direct help from Official IK Support. They endeavour to reply within 2 working days, but obviously considering the current situation things may take longer than usual.

And, to help others who run into a similar problem, please let us know what you did to resolve the issues, but without directly quoting any correspondence from official support.

That is wrong. AT4 does have an option to show cpu usage, AT5 does not.

I solved the problem.

As my machine had 12 HB of RAM that shouldn't be the issue. But speaking of storage - I installed it on an SD-CARD cause my laptop ran out of disk space.

And it was this SD-CARD that slowed everything down.
After I installed a normal harddrive (though not the fastest one in today's term) everything is fine!
