Lost input to Amplitube

Postby vinegarjoe » Sun Nov 15, 2020 5:09 pm

Hi there, amateur here so be easy!!!
Have just started using Amplitube, a couple of weeks now. All was fine till yesterday. Using my guitar thro' an audio interface USB.
Today, nothing. No input whatsoever. Audio interface looks ok, e.g. the proper lights come on.However nothing in Amplitube. Even the tuner shows nothing.
Using a MAC. Have restarted everything and done all I can think of.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Have also tried Garageband and no input there either.

Hello vinegarjoe and welcome to the forum.

I guess the most obvious question (if you frequent other Mac-based forums) is have you just updated to Big Sur?

This would suggest it is a problem between the AI and OS. What interface are you using?

Answer to first question is yes, have updated. Considering rolling back tho'.
BTW have just reloaded a fresh copy of Big Sur, but made no difference.

Next it's the cheapest of interfaces a Behringer UM2. I know it's not the best( have seen all the slagging!!) but I am just starting out at this game, so until I get sorted I can't spend too much on it.
Thx for the reply

We posted our Big Sur statement yesterday (12 Nov) and as expected and like most other audio companies we are asking that you wait.

Yeah, I think the Big Sur update is causing problems, just as all Apple OS releases do unless you are 100% Apple and not reliant on 3rd party hardware or software.

If you are able to (ie you have a clone or TM backup) rolling back to your previous OS may be the best route. I have seen very few manufacturers say they are Big Sur ready and suspect it will be like this for a while.

Hi again. Thanks so much for your interest.
Have solved the problem.
Had absolutely nothing on inputs to Garageband or Amplitube, not even the tuner.
Found an input meter under the Sound > Input tab. This was showing a variable input. So the AI was working correctly.
Bit more investigation showed that under Security & Privacy, the microphone was unchecked against Garageband and Amplitube. Checked the boxes and hey ho.......sound.

That's all after rolling back to Catalina, which gave me my headache for a Sunday afternoon. However, I'll wait a bit before upgrading to Big Sur.

My new problem after getting that going is to solve the latency problem in my Bluetooth headphones. Another headache coming methinks.......

Again thanks for your time.

Glad that you've got some sort of solution to the Big Sur problem.

I'm afraid that is an issue you will not be able to solve currently. There is always inherent latency in bluetooth headphones because of the time it takes to transcode the output from whatever music software you're using and firing it into the ether to reach your headphones. If you're just listening to music it's virtually undetectable. Once you start playing a guitar or keyboard so there is a physical reference it becomes a problem.

Using wired headphones for music making is always the best option.

Oh bu**er,
After investing in a set of BT headphones for just that purpose.

Show how much of an amateur I am.

Thanks again.

Hiya.

FWIW, I have upgraded to Big Sur on my MacBook Air 2018 and everything works fine with my UMC202HD. So I don’t think you should have an issue with upgrading to Big Sur.

Also, I have BOSE QC35 bluetooth headphones, and I can confirm there’s a delay. From what I’ve read everywhere, bluetooth=delay. Some headphones claim to not have a delay, but I haven’t tried them. My guitar is wireless to my UMC202HD, so I want wireless headphones. 2.4 GHz wireless headphones seems like the way to go: no delay.

Have fun!

Thanks I'll probably try again in a bit.....just got over the rollback....lol.

Next dumb PITA question. I had access to Custom Shop, when I went to Big Sur I was told CS wouldn't work.
However I have rolled back to Catalina, but don't have any access. By all accounts there should be an Icon in top RHS of Amplitube, but I don't have it.
Any ideas

Thx again

Cancel that. I found CS under Applications. Doesn't appear to be an icon on Amplitube after all.

Thx again

Yes, will give it a bit of time yet before upgrading, caused me enough probs already.

Thx for that.

Will you post up when it is "safe" to do so???
