Amplitube 4 not sounding right on new interface

Postby willferral » Sat Jun 20, 2020 7:30 am

On my new audio interface Amplitube 4 sounds like it has a blanket over it. I can fix this by running it through reaper, but it still sounds no where near as good as the old Amplitube metal software. I don't have this problem with my old audio interface with it Amplitube 4 sounds much better than the older version, but with my new Audio interface Amplitube 4 isn't sounding good.

The old interace is a line 6 guitaport [ very old interface]

The new one is a Marian Seraph AD2 PCI-e audio interface.

Hello willferral and welcome to the forum.

The Marian Seraph AD2 is not an interface I've come across before, but it looks like a serious AI so really shouldn't sound bad. How are you connecting the guitar to it though, as it looks like it only has XLR on the inputs?

I guess the only obvious thing I can suggest from having a quick look at the spec for the Seraph is to make sure you don't have any of the DSP running on your guitar input, such as the onboard EQ.

However, as it sounds like the problem is with the interface and not AmpliTube, it might be wise talking to tech support at Marian.

I have the xlr input connected to a preamp di.

I made a major improvement on the sound Im getting from amplitube 4 by switching my PC's performance mode to high instead of balanced. I don't think it's quite there yet the same as the older version, but it's a lot closer.

"dsp" is digital signal processing? I don't know if that is running on the guitar input, I haven't messed with the onboard eq at all I don't think?. I just made the first channel stereo and made it the master channel so I could run my asio app on channels 3-4 to still be able to use windows audio.

Have you tried listening without any software running at all, so just the dry signal direct from the input? That way you could at least fault find whether it's the hardware on the way in.

I was originally getting a signal without any software It was causing major problems when I used software as I had the two sounds at once[ I fixed it by making the channel stereo]. The dry signal sounded ok, but I guess that comes down to the quality of my preamp? As I said in my first post Amplitube 4 works fine with my older interface. It's a problem with my new one, but I would like to fix it.

What are you using as the preamp/DI?

Well, that shouldn't make a huge amount of difference unless you are laying on the tube drive a helluva lot.

Also I'm getting clicks and pops at 44.1 with 32 samples. I have to run at 64 samples for it sound clear. Meanwhile my cpu is at 3% usage. I'm using Ryzen 5 2600. I think Ryzen might the culprit a quick google showed lots of people having problems with Ryzen for audio recording usage

By optimizing my pc some more I was able to get to 32 samples and for some reason the audio quality improved.
