Opening AMPEG SVX Presets in Amplitube 4

Postby Hayloftstudios » Fri Jan 17, 2020 6:29 am

Is there any possible way to open or convert Ampeg SVX presets in Amplitube 4? I am trying to upgrade my system, but cannot seem to find a way to translate old SVX settings.

I have years worth of mixes that have Ampeg SVX plugins on them and when I open them they are of course grayed out. However, even when I meticulously hand transfer settings to Amplitube 3 they sound quite different than SVX. Unfortunately, this radically changes the sound of my mixes.

Is there any way to open or convert legacy presets?

Hello Hayloftstudios

As this is a user-to-user forum and not direct to IKM support, in case no one else chimes in here with advice or a solution, you should raise a ticket with IK official support here https://www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support/mi/

I think, possibly because of the age of the original Ampeg SVX plugin, that effective conversion might not be possible, but IK Support will be able to give you a definitive answer.

Hope that helps.

A complete guess:
-- the Ampeg SVX presets have a file extension of .svxp and the contents are in XML format,
-- you might try copying a few into an AT4 presets folder and reaming them to the AT4 preset file extension,
-- then load the preset in AT4 and Ampeg and compare them - visually and sonically.

Just in case, turn thing down first. :)

I know a lot of musicians who should heed this advice.

Umm, might need some XML editing too.

In the AT4 Gear Models manual i saw "SVX-PRO: Based on Ampeg® SVT-4 PRO® Model" and the Ampeg presets refer to the old model name. Other models have been renamed too.

Hey everybody- Thanks for the tips. It seems like the only way to accomplish it is to bring SVX 1 presets into Amplitube 3 and then port those over to Amplitube 4. It works. However, I was really hoping to be able to open old just sessions / mixes without having to have another computer rig running SVX just so that I can save the settings to Amplitube 3. Oh well, I guess that is what people need to understand about opening sessions from years back. Stems to the rescue!

Ps- Always turn it down first! :D
