Orchestral recordings for film VS purely for audio

Postby AndrewEscobar » Fri Aug 09, 2019 11:20 am

So, i was trying to find a good recording of the Saint-Saens "organ" symphony (number 3). I kind felt a little let down by the recordings i found, none of them seemed to have the weight that i was looking for.

It got me thinking - there are some film soundtracks that sound stunningly well recorded. A good comparison for the organ symphony is the Interstellar soundtrack. The organ is captured brilliantly.

Is this due to mixing, or money? I imagine the money available for the interstellar soundtrack would be huge in comparison to a studio, or live recording of a symphony orchestra concert for purely audio purposes.

Anyone round here in the know?
