Irig Pro Duo on Andriod phone

Postby Phantom Brains » Wed Sep 09, 2020 1:03 am

Hi I'm having a few issues I wanna try resolve asap

1. I bought I Rig PRO duo so I could record folk/ rock guitar, bass, keys and vocals around my house and not be tied down to one location. So it is a great concept is great although I thought the price of the device was very expensive at $479, and lots of plastic.

2.So I use my Huawei Mate 20 to plug into the Irig pro duo. It powers the Irig no problem. Seem to get a few hrs of recording on a single phone battery. I use Ntrack9 pro, and it records guitar and vocal quite clear into Ntrack9 app.

Ist issue: after no DC power is included in the hefty $479 price tag, I sent my 9v 500ma specs to Jaycar electronics who advises me on an adapter. I have plugged in the adapter and tried various ways and sequences of connecting it, but it doesnt power the Irig Pro Duo.

https://www.jaycar.com.au/9v-dc-1-66a-s ... s/p/MP3484

So I was advised by a pro electronic company Jaycar Australia this DC adapter, which has all the extra connector tips, just in case, of all shapes. Nothing works.
Can someboy from IK tell me what to do? Do I return this item? Or are other people having the same issue? I cant work out why IK cant just give a DC adapter to its customers with the item which is tried and tested? It would have saved many complaints, and would have been like $20.

I dont understand why AmpliTube doenst work with Irig duo. The fact is I could have bought Irig UA, but then I would have still needed to record vocals, so i didnt see the point. Where are the apps and guitar amp simulators for the double priced Irig Duo pro? It would only seem fair people spend the extra money and get some free guitar simulators to work for it.

Are IK going to give the Irig Pro duo customers anything?

I would love the apps and guitar sounds for sure to record with over my clean guitar.

By the way. I love the Irig Pro Duo, it sounds great, latency is low and awesome, no buzz.

Cheers Mark.

Hey there!

Thanks for jumping in the conversation.

1) Nice! It's an awesome device with excellent sound. I usually take mine on the go with my laptop so I can record anywhere I end up. I know it's a little biased coming from me, but this quickly was one of my favorites and I immediately snagged the newer iRig Pro Duo I/O once it came out for the newer pre-amps.

Don't forget iRig Pro Duo comes loaded with software to get you started. If you didn't see what you get, go to the link below. Registering in the new IK Product Manager will unlock the Mac/PC stuff.

Unfortunately, iRig UA does have a DSP chip which is the 'brain of AmpliTube UA' and the best way to get AmpliTube on Android at this time. Don't worry, we're looking into this since SAPA was discontinued from Samsung. As Android improves it's audio technology we should have great things to come.

2) n-Track is an excellent app. If you'd like you can use a third part PSU, but our PSU is guaranteed to work. Check out the FAQ on this below. Outside of a PSU, rechargeable batteries make a huge difference in battery life. They can provide much usage time than traditional Alkaline disposables in most cases.

If your current PSU does not work, my first guess is the Polarity could be off. Don't worry, the iRig Pro Duo has protection against wrong polarity PSUs so no damage should be done.

In regard to the polarity of a universal wall transformer: I have tested the DC power supply that was purchased from IK Multimedia and observed the polarity on the transformer and tested it with a multi-meter. The universal power supply that I have can match this polarity, which I also tested with a digital multi-meter.

My observation is: the diameter of the opening on the iRig I/O Pro does not match any of the plugs supplied with the universal transformer. And that by visual inspection the smallest plug from those supplied does NOT touch the outside of the receptacle on the iRig device, therefore no power is transmitted to the device. The larger plugs are too large to fit the receptacle on the device.

Furthermore the purchased iRig wall transformer's plug is too large for the receptacle on the iRig device. The conclusion: IK Multimedia did not do their due diligence in matching the $40 American power supply with their device.

My expectation is that IK Multimedia should replace their power supply with one that can attach correctly to the iRig I/O Pro, in my case, or any other iRig devices that demonstrate this issue. It is clearly the result of poor engineering on their part.

thx

Thanks Ryan from IK for your response.
Thanks for clearing up the SAPA, makes sense now, but I use Andriod, so the software you mentioned is for PC, not andriod unfortunately.
From what I've read I on the IK website manual, I need a charger DC 9V 500mA min Positive outside, is what I need to power the device.

I made sure I asked Jaycar Electronics about the positive polarity needs of a DC charger.

Im still confused why it doesnt work.
So what are you suggesting I buy? As you have no recomendations for Andriod, only IOS I could find, other than using a third party one.

This charger I bought covers all bases, why wouldn't it work? What do you mean the polarity could be off? It needs a positive polarity yes? Im still confused what the alternative is I could buy for the DC supply.
I'm not really into batteries, so not really why I bought it. DC working is my main objective here.... Your link says your Power supply is for IOS, nothing is recommended for Andriod. Well it recommends any 9v adapter will work if the specs are met. Thanks for the help. More needed though, I have no conclusion here.

Hi There Mvossberg.
So im a bit confused, are you saying the iRig PSU 9175 will work on my Irig pro duo on my Andriod phone?
Why wouldnt the one I bought work, the tips match the size easily. Very frustrating when IK say use any 9volt 500mA charger no problem. It feels like poor engineering I guess. It feels not fair that no power supply is included in the cost. As they are a re $20 item.

Thanks for your help, more needed. Cheers.

The PSU linked in the FAQ will work for Android as well. Any PSU which works for iOS will work for Android. The below third party PSU was our suggestion prior to the IK power supply. While I'd still suggest the IK power supply, with the right specs you shouldn't have any issues.

Thanks Ryan, aporeciate your further help.
I would prefer just to get an adapter from Australia where I am, rather than the US, just in case it doesnt work.

When you said the polarity is off what do you mean exactly?

Jaycar electronics in Australia have heaps to choose from which I could return if not work.

Would you recommend anything else I could try from their 9 volt range? They have quite a few to choose from. Surely one would work.
When you say the right specs, that's what I used. The shop I bought the irig from said Jaycar Electronics would have what I need.

What size Tip is needed for the DC adapter I couldnt find it in the manual?
Do you know why this wouldnt work. Can you check its specs and tell me if you see something wrong? Would love your opinion so I can refund it.

I see. As long as the specifications of the unit match the FAQ your unit should power on.

Unfortunately I don't have any other suggestions or the barrel size on hand. While I will check into this for you, since you've had so many problems finding a third party adapter, the IK one might be the way to go.

The Polarity is essentially what lead is connected to the tip and sleeve of the power supply. The tip can either go to the hot, or the ground. If these are backwards, the unit won't power on.
