Walkin’ Away - probably one of my best.

Hey forum,

So, this is me digging deep into the vault - about 30 years. As a piece of songwriting, it’s likely one of my best….straight-forward and, I think, dark & compelling.

Originally envisioned as a pared-down single singer/guitar-player piece way back, in 2018 I attempted to blow the dust off of it & added some additional production elements but then parked it again until last week.

This 2024 version builds upon the production ideas from 2018 but is a completely new recording. I hope it still comes across as somewhat raw and strained despite having some added production value and it’s been done justice.

IK Stuff:
MODO Drum
TONEX
Samples from - Miroslav Phil2, SampleTank4, SampleTron2, Stage 73, Clavitube
TR5 - De-esser, Dyna-Mu, Tape m/c 24, Classic Studio Rev, Fame Studio Rev

Hope you enjoy this one in particular!

Take care,
Michael

P.S. - I don’t typically include lyrics but here they are anyhow:

And she walkin’ away with her blackened eye
From the bastard who said that he’d change each time
Now she walking along with his babe inside

Not three hours ago, a crimson stare
When she goes for the door, he’s already there
At his hands another merciless and black night

Makes no sense, “what might have been?”
Hopes were dashed since don’t know when
Early on, the best of days
Life’s not always been this way

But now it’s so
Should she stay or go?
Left him low
Crumpled on the floor

And she walkin’ away with her blackened eye
From the bastard who said that he’d change each time
Now she walking along with his babe inside…alive…for tonight

Hi Michael, great song again, nice and melodic. The production is great, clean and clear. Enjoy!
P.S. I don't know if it is your best song, there is a lot of competition among your songs.

Hey Riff,

Again, thanks for the listen and the feedback….and your generous opinion of other tracks I’ve posted.

I suppose this song holds more of a special place to me in part to it standing the test of time and having a real theme with lyrics that tell a story vs. what I often struggle with….word-salad.

Words!.....often more of a barrier to things than notes, sadly.

Thanks again & keen to hear your next post! Stay cool! 8-)

Yeah, I think that's the case with most forum members. Lots of notes, riffs, licks. I think it's because we play more than we devote ourselves to textual expression,
