Invincible Sword Goddess ("stoner thrash" with AT4)

Postby carlaz » Thu Jul 25, 2019 9:47 pm

I posted a "demo" of this song back in 2015, but I recently re-recorded and/or remixed everything to produce this "upgraded" version:

Guitars and bass are all done with Amplitube 4. Actually, since I've now got some TRackS5 plugins, some of those are in the mix as well (though mostly on the vocal or mix-bus chains).

Rhythm guitars are mostly OR120 amp models (with matching cabs) and the "Big Pig" stomp model. The little lead guitar bits are ... mmm, I think a dual-amp Soldano+Marshall amp model thing, with the Fulltone SSTE rack model used in a stomp position for the delays.

The bass is (as so often in mixes) processed in multiple tracks. There is a heavily compressed clean DI (no Amplitube there) for the low end; a track with the Ampeg SVT-VR models for mids/highs throughout; and (just in the middle "bridge" section, which has a kind of bass solo-y part) another track run through the JH Gold for more presence in the mids/highs.

Thanks, man. 8-)

Yeah, for more "vintagey" vibes, the OR120s and the JH Gold are probably my main starting points. I actually have presets set up with basically the same "pedalboard" (crammed with fuzz, overdrive, phaser, and delay) but running into variously the OR120, JH Gold, or HiAmp, all set to a "light crunch". I tend to stick close to the expected "matching" cabs for the Orange and HiAmp, but I will really mess around with cab and speaker models for the JH Gold. (Even just hanging the stock Orange or HiAmp cabs off a Marshall-type head can be pretty cool!)

For slightly more "modern" vibes (but only slightly  ), my go-to tends to be the Orange Rockerverb model, without dirt pedals (and "stock" cabs). I also like the ENGL 650 model for similar reasons, though I haven't gotten as comfortable with it as with the Rockerverb. (I ought to spend more time with it!)

I've actually been doing a bunch of composing and arranging recently, which I usually map out in MIDI first before going in and recording proper guitars and vocals and things, but I've taken the time to set up all my preferred MIDI guitar/bass channel/instrument presets in Logic Pro to use Amplitube now -- just to make the MIDI process sound a little bit more like I want the "real thing" to sound like. :)
