DAWs on Dell Xeons?

Hi Acousticglue,

I've got a bunch of Dell Xeon workstations (T5810's). I'm researching how they might work for DAW use. I have to buy memory for them but before I do I'm interested in learning how Xeon machines are working for people. Is you computer running well for Reaper compared to whatever you used previously?

I've done some research on the cpu benchmark websites and found that our E1607 Xeon isn't faster than the i5-2400 for single thread applications. It appears the one area it would be faster in is memory operations

I found that two of 5 Precisions are E5-1620 v3's which are pretty fast. I'm going to load them up with 32GB RAM (non ECC) and try them.
