MIDI Learn: Parameter is moving but no change in sound

Hi all,
I have a M-AUDIO keystation 61 II connected with my iPhone5 via a USB3.0 lightning cable.
It works well with SampleTank.
I want to assign my volume control (on the keystation) to the volume parameter of the patch.
I go into edit mode of a patch and click on MIDI learn, hold my finger on the volume parameter till a red rectangle appears, then I move my volume knob and the red dots around the parameter move with my knob. Great! However the sound does not change...no change in volume which is essential when playing live!

What am I doing wrong? Or is it a bug?

I read in the manual that changing a parameter will work when in Record mode, but I tried that too but to no avail.

FYI:
In contrast my volume knob om my controller just works on iGrand Piano (Free) plug and play, I found out today.

Finally I found it. I thought MIDI Controller setting was ON (black button with white characters) but it is on when button is white and characters grayed out (counter intuitive for me anyway)
