ARC 3, Amplitube 5 crash upon startup

Brand new install of ARC3 on Win 10 laptop with Focusrite saffire 6 USB interface. ARC3 has never started. it looks like it tries to bring up a control panel for the interface, but that disappears quickly and ARC3 Analysis never starts.
How to trouble shoot this when it dies like that?
Also AmpliTube has the same problem , but other standalones are fine , like HammondB3x MODO Bass , Drum, Sampletron etc.
Why the different behavior?
