Confusion on British and White Channel EQPre button

Postby SDM_T_RACKS » Tue Jan 16, 2018 9:50 pm

Hi All,

Small point of confusion here. In the manual for both British and White Channels, it states, about the EQPre button, that "When engaged, the compressor section is shifted before the EQ setion (sic)". Surely that is incorrect? My understanding is that the default for all SSL-style channel strips is dynamics BEFORE EQ, and that the EQPre button puts the EQ BEFORE the dynamics. Certainly sounds that way. Is the manual just incorrect, or am I missing something?

I’ve just tested it with some ridiculous EQ settings and it does sound like the ‘EQPre’ button moves the EQ to before the compressor. This is also bourne out with more gain reduction being indicated and heard as well, as essentially I’m increasing the input level into the compressor. So, it looks like you’re correct and this maybe a typo in the manual.

The legend ‘EQPre’ reads like the EQ is before the compressor seeing as it’s a button in the dynamics section, otherwise it should read ‘PreEQ’

Now my head hurts from thinking about it

Obviously the manual is incorrect - they really should fix it - and the spelling mistake. This is easy stuff....

This has still not been fixed in the manual - even though the most recent revision shows as two months after my post regarding the Pre/Post issue......
