what does sample tank do?

Every couple years I find myself installing sample tank because of some free promotion at ik and then uninstalling it a few minutes later when I realize I have no idea what it actually does. I can see the midi keyboard react when I play on my external keyboard. But it seems like something must be missing. How do you get sounds to play? Is there something I need to purchase?

As well as the SampleTank 4 app, you also need to install the Sound Content. In your User Area next to the ST4 download you will also see a button that says "Sounds Download." After download, install the content and this will place instruments into the ST4 library to play.

Depending on the level of ST4 you purchase, you will have an increasing size of library. ST4CS is the free Custom Shop version which has about 4GB of content, all the way to ST4MAX which is over 260GB.
