Play Microtonal Scale in ST4

Postby bruce-rez » Tue May 19, 2020 1:03 am

Hi,
I am a new user of IK Multimedia and bought recently the Total Studio 2 Max.
I start playing with the sounds of ST4 and they are very nice and inspiring.

For most of my projects I need to use the Microtonal scale, that means I need, for example, to change only the tuning of one note (quarter tone) and leave others natural.
Is it possible to do the Microtonal in ST4?

Thank you

You might be lucky - in many ST4 instruments a sample is mapped across one or more keys.

If the sample is mapped to a single key, then you could edit its Fine value:
-- load the instrument and select the Edit page,
-- in Elements panel, select "Zone" (it will go red)
-- then you have a drop-down list of each Zone, showing its Note Range and Velocity Range,
-- select the Note you want to change (the Zone's Note Range is marked on the virtual keyboard) and change its Fine value,
-- repeat for other Zones as needed,
-- on the Parts page, save the modified instrument with a slightly different name

I do not know if the Sample Editor program allows you to edit factory instruments, but if so it might be easier there.

Or, automate the Fine parameter in your DAW and control it from there.

Thanks DarkStar for the suggestion.
I tried it by loading a sound from ST4 but unfortunately it did not work.

Here is the steps I did:
1- Loading a sound.
2- Edit Instrument > Select ZONE (turn in Red color)
3- Select the note C# in the drop down menu.
4- Select PITCH (turn in Red color)
5- Select Tune > reduce to -50
6- Select PITCH ENV > reduce to -50

Please see the screen shot:

Yep, I misread the parameter names, (But they're are hard to read, because of the lack of contrast.)

In Pitch Element, Tune should do it. But I would keep the Pitch Envelope knob at 0, unless you want the (editable) Pitch Envelope to modulate the pitch over time. You can display the Pitch Envelope in either of the Envelope panes.

Another one for Support, perhaps?
