Sampletank 4 - MIDI Import?

Postby DRBoyce@protonmail.com » Wed Feb 06, 2019 5:25 pm

Like many, I'm looking forward to the upgrade to 4. I wondering if there is any word on whether SampleTank 4 will be opening up to include the ability to import and play standard MIDI files from within the internal player?

Hello,

Thanks for your post!

Any MIDI files you wish to use in SampleTank 4 can be added to the DISK PATH under the PATTERNS folder. Once added here, these should appear in the Phraser (Patterns) section of SampleTank 4.

Do the user midi files put into the Patterns folder need to fit a certain spec?
I put a bunch in, and small part of filename shows up, but they do not play.

Check your MIDI file Types. Type 0 MIDI files should load okay, Type 1 MIDI files may not appear if they have multiple MIDI tracks. The team is currently looking into this behavior with MIDI Type 1 files. They are currently not fully supported.

Thanks, I was thinking somewhat along those lines.
Is there a maximum number of bars for file, or will it truncate longer bits to max length?

I believe it's not the length of the file, but the fact that MIDI Type 1 files can contain multiple tracks with different MIDI clips inside of them. A Type 0 file will have only one track.

Understood.
I doubt that it can handle a very long track,
Would be nice to know what the limit may be.

I tried following the instructions for importing a midi file from logic pro x into the pattern browser but it doesn't show up. Logic exports type 0 and type 1 files. This had no parts so I think it was a type 0. I included 100bpm and 16bar in the file name and imitated as best I could the way the other midi files in the pattern folder were labeled. Any suggestions?

With some limited testing here the file needs something like 100bpm_8bar at the end to work.

ie: Test 100bpm_8bar

Sampletank should be reading the info from the file but I guess it's not.
