SAMPLE RATE UPGRADE

Postby WhiteRoom0220 » Wed Jan 08, 2025 2:03 pm

44.1 kHz is NOT adequate for Audio recording, and results in aliasing.

1. Please upgrade ASIO Driver to 48kHz.

2. Please improve IR loader to support higher/longer sample rates (not what IRs CAN be loaded, rather the RESULTANT loaded/converted IR).

3. Please provide MUCH better technically detailed documentation on what sample rates are used during and after the capture process. It is very very difficult currently to establish what the resolution of resultant Amp Captures are by reading current documentation.

[mod redacted - incorrect information removed, please report any issues you feel you are running into to IK Support and they will assist/guide you]

4. Make the "under the hood" parameters of the capturing process much more configurable for expert users.

There is a lot of misinformation on YouTube and forums. the pedal has 192k/24 converters. your DAW handles sample rate conversion. Unless you are working on sound design that has lots of HF data in the > 22k range hitting 0dbfs you should be fine.

• Ultra-low noise, 24-bit/192k Hz converters for class-leading sound quality.
• 5 Hz–24 kHz frequency response to capture the full scope of your guitar’s sound.
• Up to 123 dB dynamic range provides whisper-quiet operation at any gain setting.

Actually, the Sine sweep tests are very revealing and despite your assertion that I won't be affected unless I'm >22k @ 0dBfs, on all the modellers I use including Helix Native, FM9, NAM, Tonex, GT1000, STL, the hiss that is the giveaway evidence on high gain tones, especially those on Presets that use heavy distortion (in particular this like the RAT distortion or fuzz pedals), is very clearly audible. The only way to fix it currently is to use a low pass filter, but the downside of doing that is that the modelling of the higher range harmonics is basically lost, which means that any resultant phasing effects for the entire range of frequencies are also lost.
You've quoted the product blurb 192/24 etc. stating that the DAW performs the sample rate conversion, but this is silly because the down sampling of the signal to 44.1 actually happens in exactly the place I'm requesting IK to upgrade - the USB driver. You're assuming that I'm going straight into my Recording Interface, (which supports 48khz), but what I WANT is actually for IK to provision a much higher sampling rate via the USB driver PRECISELY in order to provide a much better down sampling (192 to 96).
What I'm asking is simply for IK to utilise the FULL quoted available sampling power of the unit, because despite what you claim it most definitely will make a difference to the audible realism of the captures and modelling.
It's akin to providing a massive resolution RAW image which I can then subsequently adjust to my liking.
If the unit CAN do it, why would IK NOT do it???
