Tonex Pedal + DI Box + PA

Postby gecono » Fri Jul 19, 2024 4:50 pm

I'm looking to connect the Tonex pedal directly into the PA, looking at the manual it is suggested to use a DI box. Why is this needed? Is it not possible to connect directly to the PA?

DI boxes are great in live situations especially when there are even somewhat long cable runs. It will ensure the best signal gets to the PA, most live sound engineers will have plenty of DI boxes available. For a small setup you can try to connect directly and see how it sounds, especially if you have the opportunity to do so in rehearsals or otherwise before the live performance.

Thanks!

A couple followup questions:

1. For the direct to PA setup, can i get away with a single channel DI Box? I am assuming i could output as mono from the Tonex pedal. I'm not too interested in stereo effects.

2. Another scenario is where I might want to output to both PA and FRFR speaker. Would I use one output from Tonex->DI->PA and the other Tonex->FRFR.

I am looking at the Fender FR-12, which has XLR output. The Fender manual describes the XLR output as a "Balanced XLR line output for connection to external sound reinforcement and recording gear."
