Amplitube 5 .VST3 and .dll in my \VST folder

Postby W1tchseason » Sat Dec 02, 2023 5:42 pm

Hi - I've just realised that I have "AmpliTube 5.dll" and "AmpliTube 5.vst3" files in my chosen VST folder. Do I need both of these? What is the difference?
Thanks

They are two different formats of the same plug-in; "VST2" and "VST3" respectively.
Some DAWs and plug-in hosts support both formats, others support only the VST2 or the VST3 format.

No, you do not need them both. In your DAW's plug-in Browser, You can probably hide one or the other.

The VST3 specification adds new features over and above VST2, but I have not found any definitive statements about which of the new features are supported by various DAWs or plug-ins. I stick with VST2.

Ah - so the .dll is effectively .vst2?
Thanks :-)

Hi, How do you download a vst2 version of Amplitube Max 5. My product manager will only download the vst3 version, which is giving me problems in Studio One.

I’m having the same issue. Driving me nuts. I’m trying to use a Behringer FCB1010 and only have the VST3 plug in showing in Studio One. Did you find a resolution?

Hi!

I'm also trying to use FCB1010 with Amplitube 5 in Studio One. I was able to get the VST2 to show up once I uninstalled Amplitube 5 and then, when reinstalling, I disabled VST3.

Now I can see VST2! :)

Unfortunately I am still unable to control Amplitube 5 within Studio One 6... :(

I'm pretty certain that the Product Manager downloads both VST2 and VST3 versions, I've not seen a way to choose at the download stage. When you run the install it asks whether you want to install VST2, VST3, or both - you need to make sure you've selected both, if you want both.

But you also need to take a note of where the files are installed to (it asks you for your VST2 and VST 3 folders). In most cases you can accept the default but be aware that these locations aren't always the global standard that DAWs and other software expect. Do a search for AmpliTube 5.vst3 and AmpliTube 5.dll, and make sure those folder are included in the folders that your DAW looks in. In my experience it doesn't matter whether you accept the defaults as long as your DAW knows where to look.
