Amplitube 5 Crashing on startup

Postby hoenerbr » Fri Oct 13, 2023 3:57 am

At my wits end! Amp5 crashes as the program is loading. One thing I noticed was, if I unauthorize, then launch the program it will stop and say its not authorized and lets me open Authorization Manager, authorize it and then Amp5 opens and works fine until next time, then I have to start the process over again. I have uninstalled, removed everything that has to do with Amp 5 and reinstall with no help. Even tried a an app uninstaller, no help! Just hoping someone else had the same issue and found a solution!

You don’t state what version of AT you have authorised and that this is happening with, so I’m guessing probably the free trial version. There are many things other than the IK software that could be at issue, the operating system you are using and its status can have a big impact on stability of packages. Installing and then deleting software it seems is recipe for all kinds of system snarl ups as many packages leave residual garbage in hidden places that can and, my experience do, just make a mess of your PC in terms of reliability. If the PC has been in use a long while and lots of stuff has been used, added and removed the sort of issue you describe sound like a time to take stock of what is on the PC that you really use, backup you user data (if you haven’t) and trash the PC and start again. Boring and long faff work, as it takes time to get things reconfigured but it often the only way to clear the garbage that is screwing up your pc out.

Looking at your length of time on the forum, you have been around a long time so will be familiar with the reply that this is not a tech help forum and it’s best to get support via a dedicated support request to IK.

I know it’s a frustrating reply to get but that’s the way this place works (or doesn’t).

Thanks Boogieshoes

I am on a MacBook Pro on Monterey and I I have AmpliTube 5 MAX. Oddly enough your response was about a PC. Lol I have a PC that Use one of my activations with and it works great! On the Mac it has to be something with the authorization because like I said if I unauthorize, the open AMP 5 it says I am not authorized, it then lets me open Authorization Manager and authorize, then it continues to load fine and works until next time. Very weird!
Thanks for your response!

You are welcome. Sorry I can’t help more. Quite correct as to me referencing PC I do have an iPAD but I am not really an Apple person ever since the old original Apple 2 when they first started.

Ok on AT 5 Max too. I went with that package but I haven’t been successful with it for a number of reasons so stopped updates at AT 5.3 but not using it having pretty much given up with it. I look in here now and again ever hopeful that I’ll find help or an update worth installing that may fix things. Everything these days seem focussed on Tonex and I’m not interested in going that route based on experience so far.

I hope you find a fix.

Hi, ive recently installed Amplitube 5 CS but at first it wouldnt start, it crashed during startup. I uininstalled and installed several times the produt manager and amplitibe 5 CS but kept crashing. After seeing no progress with this method, I contacted IK Support and they replied me with the following:

When you can, please try closing your software and deleting the contents of the following folders to reset your application to the defaults. Next, remove any unnecessary peripherals from your machine. This includes audio interfaces, USB dongles, or any connections to your machine which are not required to open the application. Once done, let us know if this helps.

if you continue to have issues, please let us know in your response (if you're able to do so), the currently selected sample rate and audio buffer size settings. These can be found in the Audio/MIDI Set Up inside your audio interface's control panel, the stand-alone app, or DAW Settings.

Inside IK Multimedia applications, the menu is typically in the upper right-hand corner. If you have any trouble finding these locations, please let us know.

Windows: C:// -> Users -> USERNAMEHERE -> App Data Roaming* -> IK Multimedia -> Application Name
*Make sure to enable hidden files under the "View" tab of your file explorer to see this location.

This first solution IK Support provided me, didint work in my case (but it may work for someone) so I replied them back and they provided a second solution for me:

Please follow these steps to perform a clean reinstall:

Uninstall your application from your computer using the Control Panel >Programs > Uninstall a Program.
Click on the "Start" button, and type "regedit" into the search field.
Click on the "regedit" option in the search results to open the system registry editor.
In the registry editor, click on "HKEY_Current_User" and navigate to "Software" > "IK Multimedia". Delete the Product's folder here (Ex. "TONEX").
Open "HKEY_Local_Machine" and repeat the above steps, deleting the Product's (Ex. "TONEX") folder.
Once you're done, close the registry editor.
Go to "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\IK Multimedia\" find your product's folder (Ex. "TONEX") and delete the settings file in this location.
Note - This requires you have "Show Hidden Files/Folders" turned on in the View tab of your File Explorer.
Go to "Documents" > "IK Multimedia" > "Product Name" (Ex. "TONEX") and backup any Projects or Presets.*
Note - For TONEX specifically, back up your Library.db file which contains your Tone Models & Presets).
Reboot your computer.
Reinstall your application from your original installation file or from the IK Product Manager.
Inside the IK Product Manager reauthorize your application using the Software tab.

After following this process (01/03/25), uninstalling my DAW software (REAPER in my case), uninstalling the Audio interface Drivers (ASIO4All in my case since I have a behringer UM2), deleting all the temp files and reinstalling the IK programs, it finally worked (while making the clean reinstall, I didnt connect any external peripherials to my laptop). After making some test runs, I reinstalled my REAPER and Behringer UM2 audio drivers, launched Amplitube 5 CS and worked. The only think that im still trying to solve is to make it work with my REAPER through the VST/VST3 plugin, but as of this moment, the standalone version works perfectly fine as of today 01/06/25. Hope this works. Regards!
