ToneX Modeler - Problem Capturing an overdriven Hi-Gain Amp

Postby Wergnom » Tue Dec 03, 2024 5:50 am

Hello there!

If I capture my amp (H&K Switchblade TSC 100W) as amp only, or additionally add the paraEQ deluxe empress to the FX loop, then the capturing process works perfectly.

But as soon as I add an overdrive pedal in front of the amp, the result of the modeling process is no longer comparable with the real rig. The tone model then sounds dull and heavily overmodulated. It doesn't matter whether I use my own overdrive pedal or an overdrive tone model loaded onto the ToneX pedal.
It also doesn't change anything if I use the Complex Rig or only the Amp + Stomp option.

For testing purposes I also tried to capture an Amplitube 5 preset (only with OD and Amp), unfortunately with the same result as described above.

In principle, I follow Jason Sadites' tips and set my output signal from the interface, which goes into the ToneX Capture Box, to 0dBU (i.e. 0.775 V) when playing a 400Hz an -11.0 dB signal in my DAW.

Since there are tons of captures with overdrive and high gain amps on Tone net, it must be possible and I'm obviously doing something wrong, but I just can't figure it out.

Does anyone else here have this problem, or does anyone know a solution?
