How to record acoustic guitars / resonators with AT5?

I'm just curious: I have an iRig Acoustic Stage and I was trying to muck about amplifying my resonator earlier today, and I was having trouble getting a good sound. Often it sounded a little like it was recorded in a bathtub... I was wondering if anyone has used the Acoustic Stage with AT5. Do you just bypass the amp (and maybe even the cab) if you do use it? Thanks.
