Amplitube IOS Sound is Muffled and Boxy vs Desktop Version

Postby superhotmuffin » Fri Sep 27, 2024 11:04 pm

Hello, I just got an iRig HD X to use live with my iPhone because it seemed it'd be easier than hauling my Scarlett Solo, laptop, power supply and cables to gigs. Unfortunately, the sound coming from the Amplitube CS/iPhone rig is weak and boxy (about -12 dB and tons of 400-500 Hz freqs compared to the desktop version - Amplitube SE 5.0). I've tried all the usual fixes and nothing works. The ONLY difference is whether I run it through the laptop/Amplitube SE or the iPhone/Amplitube CS, all other settings/configurations are identical. Yes I checked! There are no routing/cabling issues. All signal levels are nominal throughout the signal chain. The amp/cab sims and settings are identical. The interface settings are identical. It seems to be an issue with the iPhone itself (yes, I've tried two different iPhones). If any one has any advice, please help.

What I tried:

Guitar --> Scarlett Solo (In) --> Laptop/Amplitube SE --> Scarlett Solo (Out): My Normal rig, OK
Guitar --> iRig HD X (In) --> Laptop/Amplitube SE --> iRig HD X (Out): OK
Guitar --> iRig HD X (Thru) --> Scarlett (In) --> Laptop/Amplitube SE --> Scarlett (Out): OK

Guitar --> iRig HD X (In) --> iPhone/Amplitube CS --> iRig HD X (Out): BAD
Guitar --> iRig HD X (In) --> iPhone/Garageband --> iRig HD X (Out): BAD

The difference in sound quality is huge. It seems that since Amplitube and Garageband have the same issue, then there's something with the iPhone itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Michael B.
