SampleTank 4 - Bind MIDI Panic Button to controller

Postby Clauz79 » Thu Apr 10, 2025 11:56 am

Hi everyone. I bought ST4 through an Humble Bundle coupon and I'm learning to use it for simple live keyboard playing on a M-Audio Keystation 61. It's nice but sometimes notes are stuck when I quickly switch patches, so I need to click on the MIDI Panic Button (exclamation point): sadly, seems there's no way to bind that button to a key on my controller. Putting an hand off keyboard to click on the PC's trackpad while playing isn't the best practice.

Any advice? Thanks!

If possible, configure a button on the Keystation 61 to transmit the following hexadecimal sequence to Sampletank 4:

B0 78 7F B0 78 00 B0 7B 7F B0 7B 00

What this is effectively sending is this:

CC120 127 < This is the B0 78 7F
CC120 0 < This is the B0 78 0
CC123 127 < This is the B0 7B 7F
CC123 0 < This is the B0 7B 0

In the MIDI spec (Which Sampletank 4 obeys) the following applies:

CC120 silences all currently-sounding notes on the respective part.
CC123 turns off all notes which are currently on for the respective part except if sustain is pressed.

I think you might get away with using just CC120

I have done this on a Edirol PCR-800 with Sampletank 4 and this works.

Whether you can do this depends on how programmable the M-Audio Keystation 61 is

Hope that helps.
